Fight the "Stop Online Piracy Act" Bill

We here at beachmonkey.com strive to be politically neutral. We do not take sides, we want to help everyone create a better social life. However a bill is being pushed through congress extremely fast that has gotten our attention and made us speak out. That bill is the Stop Online Piracy Act. Beachmonkey.com is completely against this bill for the number of reason.
First, this is a jobs killing bill. The internet is a powerful tool for new start-ups and powering American sales around the world. If congress passes this bill, it will interfere with this creative process. We do not need anything else that prevents job growth.
Second, if this bill becomes law, it will be the first law that creates a system for censorship of the internet without any judicial oversight. We will become like China. Internet sites can be shut down at their host IPs without even a trial. For example, if someone posts up a video that contains a copyrighted song or image on a social site, that whole social site gets shut down without a trial or hearing until it goes to court.
Lastly, this new bill would actually hurt efforts to make the internet more secure. Experts in cyber security say that this bill would actually make the internet more vulnerable to crime, attack and misuse, and make it harder to catch the criminals.
You can fight this law now. Congress works for you, not the record and movie industry. Go to this website Fight for the future and it will put you in direct contact with your local congress person. It is very easy and takes 5 minutes.

I'm sorry but I have to dissagree with many of these points. Fisrt off, piracy does not help create jobs. If anything, it takes money away from people who creatively earned it. For example, let's pretend I'm a major film maker. I spend forty million dollars on a movie that becomes extremely popular but instead of making money on people coming to see it in the theatre, it gets pirated before it even gets there. For that reason, I loose 80% of my potential audience. Now I loose money instead of making any. Because of that, there won't be a sequel and everyone who would have been involved in it is now out of work.
Second, this bill does not allow complete censorship over the internet. What it is designed to do is stop piracy by banning pirated material. You may be confusing this bill with one that was presented a few years back under the Bush administration which would charge for internet access and allow government to regualte what could be seen and who could se it. That bill was "shot down" before anyone could even begin to worry about it.
I should also mention that upholding copywrite laws does not make us more like China. It is the complete oposite. China does NOT respect copywrite laws and that is why you see so many cheap knock-offs of popular name brands. Some of these knock-offs are downright dangerous, they hurt lagit business and suport the growth of a communist nation.
