React Detroit Presents Freaky Deaky: Zeds Dead and Krewella

It’s 8pm outside of Elektricity Nightclub in Pontiac, Michigan and fans in ridiculous costumes are lined up to party with Zeds Dead and Krewella. Electronic dance music fanatics were freezing in their skin-revealing costumes, but it did not stop them from waiting to rage. Some of the costumes for the night included deadmau5 heads, banana suits, alice in wonderland, and a finger suit. When the clock struck 9pm, the doors burst open, and people filed one-by-one into Elektricity. The chaos began once everyone hit the dance floor, rushing to the front and dancing to the beat.

Pandemonium only continued when everyone saw the Rain Man and the two Yousaf sisters, aka Krewella, enter the stage to begin their sound check. As I was holding onto the gate in the front row for dear life, I soon realized that this was the biggest Krewella show that I had ever encountered. LED lights illuminated the entire room, and the bass from the speakers caused my body to vibrate incessantly. With an hour and a half set, Krewella had time to give the fans an unforgettable experience. They debuted an unreleased track, “Come and Get It,” and made the bass drop with remixes of popular songs such as “Mercy” and “N*ggas in Paris.” The Krewella tradition of dowsing the crowd with Jameson whiskey or champagne was once more in effect. Krewella was making the crowd wet in more than one way.

The room darkened and out walked two men – one is wearing a rasta beanie with dreads, and the other a suit and a top hat. Since Bob Marley and Abraham Lincoln are deceased, it couldn’t be them…instead, it’s DC and Hooks, better known as Zeds Dead. The Zeds Dead crew has always been known for their killer sets. I can now see why. As I gazed through the crowd, I noticed fans singing along to every single song. Some fans even held up signs. There was very little breathing room throughout the entire club. When their final song ended, fans immediately erupted in a chant: “One more song! One more song!” It didn’t take long for DC and Hooks to give the fans what they wanted.

It’s imperative to mention that React Detroit went all out on making this show the best that it could be. The room was filled from front to back the entire night, the sound system was incredible, a fantastic overall production, and great photos to prove it.

Be sure to attend more of their upcoming shows: Funtcase, Big Gigantic, and DJ Shadow.
